Blue Jays Minor League Recap: 08/05/16

The Toronto Blue Jays Minor League system went 1-2 on games played on May 8th, 2016. Join us in recapping the wins and losses.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons (13-17, 6th)

With a win in the rubber match of the 4-game series with the 1st place Chiefs, the Bisons avoided losing second series in a row. Bisons won 4-2.

 

At the Plate

Buffalo scored a run in the 1st and three in the 4th. All of Buffalo’s runs came with 2-outs.

Dalton Pompey’s bat came alive on Sunday. Pompey drove in 2 runs with a single and a double.

Domonic Brown hit his 5th HR, a solo shot in the 1st, while Jio Mier drove in the Bisons other run.

 

On the Mound

Roberto Hernandez allowed 2 unearned runs on 2 hits over 5.2IP. Roberto struck out 6 batters, throwing 89 pitches.

Colt Hynes, Ben Rowen, and Dustin Antolin combined to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Antolin picked up his first save, striking out 2 in the 9th.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats  (11-17, 5th)

The 1st place Hartford Yard Goats flexed their muscle on Sunday, thumping the Fisher Cats, 0-10.

 

At the Plate

NH had their hands full with German Marquez, managing just one hit.

Wilkin Castillo was the only Fisher Cat to register a hit. Dwight Smith Jr. and K.C. Hobson got on base via the walk.

 

On the Mound

Casey Lawrence (0-2, 4.50ERA) allowed 6 runs on 9 hits over 3.o innings. He allowed one home run while striking out 3.

Daniel Schlereth walked 3 and allowed 2 runs, Bo Schultz allowed a home run and 2 runs.

Chris Smith and Danny Barnes held the Yard Goats scoreless over final 3.1 innings. Smith allowed one base runner, striking out 2 over 2.1IP to lower his ERA to 2.70ERA.

Dunedin Blue Jays  (13-16, 4th)

The D-Jays split the 4-game series with Daytona, losing 3-6. With the loss, Dunedin has now dropped 8 of their past 10 games.

 

At the Plate

The Blue Jays out hit the Tortugas 12-9, but managed just 3 runs on 2-for-9 with RISP.

Derrick Loveless had a big day with two doubles and a single. Ryan McBroom, Jason Leblebijian, and Mike Reeves each had two hits.

D.J. Davis hit his 1st HR, a solo job to get the D-Jays on the board in the 4th inning.

 

On the Mound

Kyle Westwood continues to struggle, allowing 4 runs over 6IP. Matt Dermody didn’t fare any better, allowing 2 runs in his inning of relief.

Adonys Cardona allowed one hit in a scoreless inning. Adonys scoreless inning streak in up to 11 innings in 10 outings.

Newly promoted Colton Turner pitched one no-hit inning in the 9th.
