RA Dickey and Josh Thole now may not be a part of the Toronto Blue Jays playoff plans, so what do they do now?
In a recent turn of events the Toronto Blue Jays went out and acquired a familiar face in Dioner Navarro. The Jays back up catcher from last year will provide some much needed depth in a position of need. Navarro will also be a welcome face back in the Jays clubhouse, still having many friends in the group. Our own Shaun Doyle wrote up on the acquisition more here.
Outside of the clear impacts to the roster, there’s also a ripple effect to be seen. Now that the Jays are in possession of two more than capable catchers, and Josh Thole, as well as six starters, things get pretty crowded. As a result the dominoes started to fall. After catching his final game with R.A. Dickey on Sunday August 28th, Josh Thole would be DFA’d to make room for the return of Dioner Navarro. William Wilson broke down the end of his era with the Blue Jays here. Since then Josh Thole has cleared waivers and has elected free agency, sitting in limbo without a team and Dickey now left without his battery mate.
Two scenarios could happen here. The most common thought is that the Jays will re-sign Thole today just in time for the next Dickey start and roster expansion. Alternatively, an agreement will not be reached, and the Blue Jays and Josh Thole will end up going their separate ways. Either way, participating in the playoffs does not look promising for the dynamic duo. If Thole does come back, Navarro is a better catcher, and there are 5 pitchers ahead of Dickey on the depth chart to make the playoff roster. If he doesn’t, do the Jays really want to risk keeping Dickey on board without his caddy?
Now the question remains, with both besties out for the playoffs, what will they do? The Jays From the Couch staff got together, and jumped into a time machine to the future to snap some images of just what may be going on…
We first run into our friends chilling on the couch in their PJ’s. The Jays may not need them to win the World Series, so why would they need the Jays? Josh and R.A. fire up the old PS4 and win the title all by themselves. They are World Series champions, and October is just beginning!
Winning the World Series by themselves, RA and Josh now feel like they can take on the world, so why not! Holy ball players Batman, the boys have traded in their Jays uni’s for tights! Josh and RA take a turn at trying to fight crime, the kunckles now being used for punches. BANG! WHAP! POW!
After saving the world the boys need to unwind, and what better place than Oktoberfest! Dickey and Thole travel to Germany to get their drink on and share a couple brewskies. They may do a couple crazy things while slightly intoxicated, but you know that German beer, it’s a capricious animal. Nice lederhosen boys!
While in Europe, RA gets one of his familiar old cravings. It’s time to climb a mountain! Even though poor Josh is inexperienced, RA has his back. Acting as the clubhouse leader…er… Sherpa that he is, Dickey helps Thole concur his fear of reaching new heights.
With Thole’s training complete, Dickey takes him to Kilimanjaro for his real test. It’s a tough climb, but the spiritual benefits will help the boys come to terms with not being in Toronto to celebrate. Isntead, they will capture an appreciation for life as a whole.
What a month! Our heroes kept busy enough they barely even noticed the Jays going on a hell of run. It’s time to relax though, so the guys cuddle up and throw on the Walking Dead season premiere. It looks intense, wouldn’t you say? WHO DIED GUYS!?!?!?! TELL US WHO DIED!!!!!
Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out ourselves. Thanks for letting us tag along on your crazy adventures you two!
