The Toronto Blue Jays logo was all over cyber space on Wednesday thanks to a feat of part acrobat, part insanity, part holy crap! Thanks to Chris Coghlan’s Superman dive over Yadier Molina, the Blue Jays won a game and we had water cooler talk aplenty. So, let’s take a look at the latest news and links while we’re basking.

* To break us of our Coghlan induced drunken stooper, former Blue Jays reliever and color commentator, Dirk Hayhurst offers up his take on how the Blue Jays can bounce back after a rough start. Before he presents his solution, he discuss why Toronto cannot trade its way out of their deficit and why looking to young stars in the minors won’t work either. Which means that his grand conclusion is that the Blue Jays need to get hot and stay hot…So…

*According to Shi Davidi, the Blue Jays are one step closer to an agreement to fix up their digs in Dunedin. The deal has been voted to advance, but hasn’t been finalized by the Pinellas County Commission. Shi tells us that the financial responsibilities break down as follows: $46.5M from the county, $13.6M from the state government, $5.6M from the town of Dunedin and $15.7M from the Blue Jays, who will also be solely responsible for the maintenance, etc for the next 25 years. Obviously, this is good news for the 40 year relationship between the club and Dunedin.

* Speaking of ballpark renovations, the Vancouver Canadians have partnered up with local businesses and charities to create the Variety Challenger Baseball Field of Dreams. Rob Fai brings the story of a field that was designed and built for young kids with physical and cognitive challenges. It has dugouts with no steps and it has a synthetic surface to allow for wheelchairs. This is a nice story about using the sport of baseball to help improve the lives of others.

In case you missed it, former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, Steve Delabar has been suspended 80 games for the use of Ostarine. According to the news from the Associated Press (via Sportsnet), Ostarine is used to maintain lean muscle mass. Delabar says that he came in contact with the substance  in an over the counter dietary supplement, one that was not on the list of certified or safe products. The former substitute teacher has hit a rough point in his career after battling to the big leagues, to All Star status in 2013. He has been barely hanging on and is with the Reds organization.

* It certainly felt like reactions to the Chris Coghlan play were everywhere. A quick search of Twitter reactions yields some interesting results:

This next one just might be the best. It is also featured in Ian Hunter’s post on reactions to the “slide”.

With a double header set for today in St Louis, it might be a good time for you to check out our pre-game show on YouTube. We get you set for the series by offering you an alternative to busy, loud suits and caveman-like commentary. It is the first in our pre-game offerings, so look for future installments as the season goes on.
