May 29, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Update

The Buffalo Bisons (26-22) eventually took the loss but it was a see-saw affair on Memorial Day for the Bisons who dropped their day game 9-7 to the Charlotte Knights. The man they call “Leb” had a banner day, hitting a pair of home runs and driving in four runs as Jason Leblebijian was 4/5, adding a double. Christian Lopes was 2/4 with a solo home run and a walk and Dwight Smith, Jr. was 2/5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Ian Parmley had another two-hit game, going 2/4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.

T.J. House gave up five runs (three earned) over the first two innings but then nothing as he logged 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Murphy Smith tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, stranding a runner and Matt Dermody started the ninth allowing a solo home run and getting a fly out before Chris Smith came on to try to nail down the victory. Unfortunately, Smith gave up two singles sandwiched around a strikeout before former big leaguer Cody Asche pinch hit with a walk-off home run.

L: Chris Smith (1-1)
HR: Jason Leblebijian 2 (7), Christian Lopes (2)

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (19-30) had their winning streak come to an end on Memorial Day as they dropped their game 4-2 to the Reading Fightin Phils. Reading scored just two runs off of starter Jon Harris who went six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. The home run was to prospect Scott Kingery who has 16 home runs now, so that big blast may be forgiven. John Stilson was hung with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over two innings with two strikeouts and Tim Mayza threw a scoreless ninth with one strikeout.

Andrew Guillotte‘s numbers are coming back down to earth as he lowered his batting average by going 2/4 and is now hitting .524 in his time in Double-A. Derrick Loveless was 2/4 with a double and a run while Jonathan Davis was on base three times with a single, two walks and an RBI. RIchard Urena drove in the other run, going 1/4.

L: John Stilson (0-1)

The Dunedin Blue Jays (29-22) had the day off and will get under way on Tuesday at home at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium with a TBA starter.

The Lansing Lugnuts (27-21) only had six hits in their 5-3 loss to the Great Lakes Loons on Memorial Day. Justin Maese started and gave up three runs on seven hits and four walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Nick Hartman and Zach Jackson each followed with a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and striking out one while Andrew Deramo took the loss, giving up two runs in the top of the ninth to give the Loons the victory.

Bo Bichette had two of the club’s six hits and two RBI, going 2/5 with a stolen base. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. had the big hit of the day, a triple. Yeltsin Gudino was on base twice with a single and a walk, scoring once.

L: Andrew Deramo (0-1)
