August 14, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Update
The Buffalo Bisons (54-67) had the day off.
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (47-72) had the day off.
The Dunedin Blue Jays (63-57) faced off against the Palm Beach Cardinals to start their new series and doubled them up, beating them 6-3. Toronto’s Connor Panas led the charge, going 2/4 with a home run and four RBI, scoring twice. Juan Kelly was 2/3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBI while Jake Thomas was 2/4 with a double and J.C. Cardenas was 2/3 with a walk and a run.
John Straka delivered seven innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts while Philip Walby gave up a run on a hit, a hit batter and a walk in 2/3 of an inning and Zach Jackson earned his fourth save, allowing one of the three inherited runners from Walby to score but struck out two in 1 1/3 innings.

The Lansing Lugnuts (58-58) blanked the Great Lakes Loons, beating them 5-0 on Monday. Joshua Palacios went 3/5 with a double and an RBI, scoring a run while Nash Knight (a.k.a., “Mash” Knight) had another three hits, going 3/4 with an RBI. Nick Sinay was 2/3 and was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and scoring twice and Rodrigo Orozco was 2/4 with a walk and a run.
Mike Ellenbest led the way with five two-hit innings, allowing just a walk and striking out five. Juliandry Higuera also struck out five but it was over two innings and he gave up two hits. Connor Eller just struck out one batter over two innings to finish the game.

The Vancouver Canadians (32-25) held off the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to win 7-4. Logan Warmoth was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and two runs while Reggie Pruitt was 2/5 with a stolen base. Kacy Clemens and Bryan Lizardo were both 1/3 with a walk and a run with Clemens driving in two and Lizardo driving in one. Brock Lundquist also drove in two runs, going 1/4. Brandon Polizzi was 1/4 with a double, an RBI and a run.
Donnie Sellers got the start and gave up a run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings before Grayson Huffman took over, stranding two runners and walking one over his 1/3 of an inning. Wilfri Aleton tossed two innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Jake Fishman picked up 5 Ks in his two perfect innings and Chris Hall was charged with an unearned run over 1 2/3 innings, allowing a hit and walking two with three strikeouts before William Ouellette came in for a one-out save.

The Bluefield Blue Jays (35-17) edged out the Princeton Rays, beating them 6-5, getting home runs from the two club leaders in that stat. Ryan Noda hit his sixth of the year, going 1/3 with a walk and the solo blast while Kevin Smith was 1/4 with the home run and two RBI. Brandon Grudzielanek was 3/4 with a double, an RBI and a run and McGregory Contreras was 1/4 with two RBI.
Elio Silva allowed all five runs in his five innings of work although only three runs were earned. He gave up 10 hits and struck out four without walking anyone. Kelyn Jose went 1 2/3 scoreless frames, striking out two and Graham Spraker earned his sixth save, pitching 2 1/3 innings of perfect ball.

The GCL Blue Jays (28-15) eked out a 2-1 victory over the GCL Tigers West. Maverik Buffo continued to shine in the GCL, tossing six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out five batters. Emerson Jimenez had a great outing, striking out two in two perfect innings. Jonathan Cheshire earned the save, giving up one unearned run on a hit with one strikeout in the ninth.
The batters had just seven hits but took six walks, led by Davis Schneider who walked twice and was 1/2. Dominic Abbadessa was 1/3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base while Luis De Los Santos was 1/3 with an RBI. Jose Theran, Joseph Reyes and Patrick Morris each was 1/3 with a walk.

The DSL Blue Jays (39-20) shut down the DSL D-backs1 club, beating them 5-0. Naswell Paulino had a tremendous start, tossing five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Yohandy Martir followed with three shutout innings, striking out four and allowing just a hit and a walk while Adolfo Molina finished with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Hector Guerrero had a perfect day, going 2/2 with a double, a walk, two runs and a sacrifice bunt while Kenny Mauricio was 2/3 with two doubles, a walk and two runs. Steward Berroa was 2/5 with a stolen base and Andres Martinez was 2/4 with a run. Yeison Estevez drove in two runs, going 1/4 and Warnel Valdez was 1/3 with a run and a sacrifice fly.
