April 22nd Blue Jays Minor League Recap: Williams hits 2HR as Lugnuts win

The system went 2 and 2 on Sunday. The Fisher Cats and Lugnuts picked up wins with the Bisons and D-Jays taking a loss.

 

Triple-A

 

Buffalo Bisons (4-4)

 

Buffalo lost 6 to 1

 

Matt Dermody and Jake Petricka combined to allow 5 earned runs in relief of a shaky Deck McGuire.

 

The Herd scored just the single run on 8 hits, as former farmhand Asher Wojciechowski picked up the win. Dalton Pompey, Rowdy Tellez, and Tim Lopes each had 2-hits while Danny Jansen (1-for-4 with a double) picked up the only RBI.

 

Pompey continues to put up strong numbers and looks like a completely different player than he did all of last season. Pompey picked up another SB.

 

Starter- Deck McGuire 4.0IP, 2H, R, 4BB, 3K, and an HRA on 78 pitches

 

L- Deck McGuire  (1-1, 7.00 ERA)

 

Monday, April 23rd starting pitcher- Joe Biagini (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

 

Double-A

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (11-4)

 

The Cats won 4 to 2.

 

NH outhit the Fightin Phils 8 to 6 with Jonathan Davis the only Fisher Cat with 2 hits. Vladimir Guerrero had the day off and Bo Bichette slides down to bat cleanup.

It was Cavan Biggio with back-to-back games with a HR and now leads New Hampshire with 3 and trails Vladdy by 3 in the RBI department with 12.

 

Bo and Davis each had a stolen base. Davis now has 9 SB in 13GP the year, after stealing 20 last year in 128 GP.

Dusty Isaacs, Danny Young, and Zach Jackson shutout Reading over the final 3IP.

 

Starter- Jon Harris 6.0IP, 4H, 2R, 2BB, 5K, and an HRA on 94 pitches

 

W- Dusty Isaacs (2-0, 3.12 ERA)

Dunedin Blue Jays (7-9)

 

Dunedin lost 5 to 1

 

Starter T.J. Zeuch struggled with his control but managed to throw 101 pitches and pitched into the 6th inning. Relievers Jonathan Cheshire and Juliandry Higuera shutout the Tortugas over the final 3.1IP.

 

At the dish, Joshua Palacios hit home runs in back-to-back games, matching his HR totals from 2017. Prior to 2018, it took Palacios 141 games to reach 2HR.

 

Only Alberto Mineo and Eduard Pinto went hitless.

 

Starter- T.J. Zeuch 5.2IP 4H, 5R, 4BB, and 2K on 101 pitches

 

L- Zeuch (2-2, 4.07 ERA)

Lansing Lugnuts (9-6)

 

Lansing won 4 to 2.

 

The Lugnuts were outhit 8 to 5 but Christian Williams hit 2 home runs and drove in 3 RBI to guide the Lugs to victory. Ryan Noda walked 3 times and stole 3 bases. Chavez Young and Kevin Smith each had 2 stolen bases.

 

Buffo allowed 2 runs over 5IP while Andy Ravel pitched 3 scoreless innings and Ty Tice converted his 4th save.

 

Starter- Maverik Buffo 5.0IP, 4H, 2R, 2BB, and 5K on 84 pitches

 

W- Buffo (1-1, 7.15 ERA)

 

H- Ravel (2)

 

SV- Tice (4)

Player of the Day

 

POD Honourable Mention:

  • The Bisons’ Pompey went 2-for-5 with a double, and a SB. Dwight Smith Jr. went 0-for-2 with 3BB.
  • NH’s Isaacs, Young, and Jackson pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing 2 hits and 4K while not allowing any runs.
  • Lansing’s Ravel and Tice combined to shutout the Cubbies over 4 IP.
  • NH’s Cavan Biggio scored 2 runs, hit a 2-run bomb, and 2 walks.

 

Saturday, April 1st’s POD goes to  Christain Williams.

 

Lansing’s 1st/DH Christian Williams hit 2 home runs in Sunday’s game to bring his season total to 3 after 12 games. In 2017, Williams hit 3 HR in 66 games.

 

With 2-outs and nobody on base, Williams put the Lugnuts up 1 to 0 with a solo shot to left.

 

William’s next at-bat came in the 4th with the Lugnuts behind 2 to 1. With one out and Ryan Noda on base, Williams hit his second home run of the day to left to put the Lugs up 3 to 2.

 

Williams grounded out in the 6th and 8th innings.

 

Bo and Vlad Show

 

Bo Bichette went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a walk, a stolen base, and strikeout. Bichette is now batting .295 with 7 RBI and 6 stolen bases.

 

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was given the day off.
