Player of the Day

POD Honourable Mention:

  • The Fisher Cats bullpen. Danny Young and Justin Shafer allowed 5 hits over 3.1IP, surrendering one run, and striking out 6 with no walks.
  • Bo Bichette (see below)
  • D-Jays Angel Perdomo goes 5 shutout innings in his debut with 7K.
  • Lansing’s Samad with 3 BB or Yennsy Diaz threw 5 no-hit innings.

Tuesday, April 24th’s POD goes to Kevin Smith.

Like Brock Lundquist in yesterday’s game, Smith drove in 5 RBI with a double and a HR, going 2-for-5.

Playing short and batting 5th for the Lugnuts, Kevin Smith doubled in the first innings to score Kacy Clemens and Christian Williams. It was Smith’s 4th double of the young season.

Smith came to the plate for his 2nd at-bat in the 3rd inning with Cullen Large and Christian Williams on base. Smith looked at strike one but sent the 0-1 pitch to left for a 3-run shot, giving the Lugnuts a commanding 5 to 0 lead.

Kevin Smith flew out in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th and 8th innings to end his day.

The 2017 4th round pick is batting .286 with 4 doubles, 2HR, and 17 RBI in 15 games.
