May 13th Blue Jays Minor League Recap: Biggio powers Fisher Cats to victory

Sunday, May 13th saw the Buffalo Bisons get rained out and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats split a doubleheader. Dunedin and Lansing had scheduled off days.

 

Triple-A

 

Buffalo Bisons (12-15)

Monday, May 14th starting pitcher- was supposed to be Deck McGuire but his contract was selected by Toronto on Sunday, so let’s go with TBD.

 

Note: Dalton Pompey, Anthony Alford, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. were sent to Buffalo from Toronto over the past couple of days. More moves are likely to come to relieve the outfield logjam.

 

Double-A

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (20-13)

 

Fisher Cats won game 1, 6 to 1, and lost game 2, 2 to 1.

 

Game 1

 

The offense scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in the 7th inning on 12 hits. Jonathan Davis (7) and Harold Ramirez (7) each collected doubles while Max Pentecost (2) picked up a triple. Cavan Biggio hit his 10th HR (2-run shot) and finished the game with 3 RBI.

 

Stater- Sean Reid-Foley 4.0IP, 3H, R, 5BB, 7K on 92 pitches

 

W- Jose Fernandez (3-0, 2.65 ERA)

 

Game 2

 

New Hampshire lost 2 to 1

 

Connor Panas had the clubs only extra-base hit, picking up his 5th double. Panas and Vladimir Guerrero Jr both went 2-for-3, as the Fisher Cats were outhit 7 to 4.

 

Starter- T.J. Zeuch 6.0IP, 6H, R, 2BB, 4K, and a HRA on 95 pitches

 

L- Dusty Isaacs (2-1, 3.86 ERA)

POD Honorable Mention:

 

  • NH’s Jonathan Davis went 3-for-4 with a run scored Jose Fernandez pitched 2.o IP of 1-hit relief for the win in game 1.
  • NH’s Zeuch gave the Fisher Cats a QS and Connor Panas went 2-for-3 in game 2.

 

Sunday, May 13th’s POD goes to the Cavan Biggio.

 

The 23-yr-old played both ends of the Fisher Cats’ doubleheader. Biggio finished the day  2-for-6 with a pair of runs scored, and 4 RBI. Cavan hit his 10th HR in the 1st inning of game 1 off 29-yr-old Logan Darnell with Vladdy Jr. on 1st base.

 

Biggio would drive in Jonathon Davis from 2nd base in the 7th inning of game 1 to kick off a 4-run 7th inning. Biggio would cross the plate on Max Pentecost’s triple.

 

In the 6th inning of game 2, Jonathan Davis lead off the inning with a walk and a stolen base (13). Max Pentecost walked and Valdimir Guerrero Jr. singled Davis to 3rd base and Pentecost to 2nd base to load the bases for Cavan Biggio. Cavan scored the clubs only run on a sac fly to left field, scoring Jonathan Davis.

 

The 2016 5th rounder is batting .291 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 10 HR, and 29 RBI while posting an impressive 1.086 OPS in 30 games.

 

Bo and Vlad Show

 

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. played both ends of the doubleheader at 3rd base. He went 4-for-7, all singles. Vladdy did not walk or strike out in 7 plate appearances but did score a pair of runs. The super prospect is batting .391 with 5 HR and 36 RBI with the Double-A Fisher Cats.

 

Bo Bichette played game 1 and went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts. He is now batting .194 with 3 RBI, 6BB and 10K over his last 10 games. Bo is batting .264 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 11 RBI, and 9 SB for New Hampshire.
