Player of the Day
POD Honorable Mention:
- Buffalo’s Tim Lopes (2-for-4, R, 2-RBI) and Roemon Fields (3-for-4, RBI). Luis Santos (3IP, 2H, 2BB, 2K) and Justin Shafer (2.1IP, H, BB)
- NH’s Bo (see below), Aledmys Diaz (2-for-4, 2R, 2-2B), Jonathan Davis (2-for-5, 3B, RBI), Pentecost (1-for-5, 2-R, HR, 2-RBI), Gunnar Heidt (2-for-4, 2-R, 2B, 3B, RBI, BB)
- Lansing’s Cullen Large (2-for-5, R, RBI), Brock Lundquist (1-for-4, 2-R, 2-RBI), and Chavez Young (2-for-4, SB, RBI)
Thursday, May 31st POD goes to Norberto Obeso
The Lansing Lugnuts LF went 4-for-5 with a run scored and a run batted in.
Now you might be thinking why Obeso? Heidt had a better game (see above) and was a very deserving candidate. Despite Obeso not providing the extra base power like Heidt of the big home runs like Lundquist or Bo, Obeso’s hits helped win the game for Lansing.
In the 9th inning with the Lugnuts trailing 5 to 2, Obeso singled to push Yeltsin Gudino and Ryan Noda into scoring position. Obeso would later score on a Chavez Young single to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra innings.
Obeso won the game for Lansing with a soft line drive in the 10th inning to scored Samad Taylor.
Overall, the 22-yr-old Obeso is .253 with .668 OPS. He has just one extra-base hit and one home run in 24 games. He has walked 15 times and struck out 15 times for a solid .347 OBP. Obeso also has 8-RBI.
Bo and Vlad Show
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a walk. VGJ has seen his batting average dip over the past week from .435 down to .417…..can you consider batting .359 over the past 10 games a slump?
Bo Bichette seems to be over his mid-May slump going 2-for-4 with a run scored, 2-RBI, and a home run. Bo sent starter Dedgar Jimenez‘ second pitch over the right-field wall for his 4th HR of the year and tied the game up at 1-1. Bichette is batting .368 over the 10 games with 5 multi-hit games. He is riding a 6-game hit streak. The 20-yr-old SS is batting .272 with .775 OPS.
