Before we get going with our Morning Quickie, we have an announcement to make:

We are about to take Blue Jays talk to another level. We’re very excited about this venture and look forward to interacting with Blue Jays fans in a completely new way! Obviously, with any new venture, there will be hiccups, so we welcome your feedback and encourage your participation.

Quick Hit #1

With Marcus Stroman throwing live BP, one hasĀ  to wonder how quickly he can make it back. And, more to the point, will he be effective enough to help right the sinking ship that has been the Blue Jays’ starting rotation? Before hitting the DL, Stroman put up a 7.71 ERA, a 4.59 FIP and more walks and home runs than he’s ever allowed. We can chalk his performance up to dealing with his shoulder, which means when he returns, so to should his effectiveness.

Heading into the season, Toronto was said to have one of the top rotations in baseball. Here we are at the beginning of June and the rotation has given up 200 runs, 51 homers, an .803 OPS, a 5.38 ERA and compiled a 15-27 record. Save for J.A. Happ, this whole group has under performed and one has to wonder if Stroman’s return can be the shot in the arm they need.

Quick Hit #2

The Toronto Blue Jays have had discussions about promoting phenom, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, but it’s not to the big league club, according to Jon Morosi.

Obviously, the standard ‘Morosi’ amount of salt should be taken with this. Let’s be real…do we think the Blue Jays really haven’t talked about this up until this tweet came out? Come on. In fact, this tweet is one of those that are so well crafted that the tweeter could be correct in any eventuality. With words like “possibility” and “within the next month”, Morosi is covered for anything.

But, the fact remains that Vlad Jr is making AA look like little league, taking his game to an entirely new level than he already had previously. We know he won’t be comign to Toronto any time soon, but one has to wonder if moving him to AAA is the right idea. It is said that AA is the harder league and the best litmus test for big league promotion. AAA has so many moving parts and players on the wrong ends of their career, it might be better to keep him in New Hampshire. But, what do I know? I don’t work for MLB Network.

Quick Hit #3

So, on Episode 165 of the JFtC Radio Podcast, Wade and I discussed Toronto finally appearing on Sunday Night Baseball and how much the Yankees were whining about having to be on it, which highlights an underlying difference in the coverage both teams have received.

Really, there are two sides to this. Firstly, is the side of me that hates the Yankees. The fact that the game was moved for them is just silly. It’s further proof that MLB (and other entities) clearly prefer the Yanks to anyone else and will bend to their will. They don’t like having to play a late game and then head off and play a double header the next day…boo hoo.

The other side of this is that their schedule kind of stinks around that time. They have an off day on July 5 and then play 3 in Toronto. Then, they fly to Baltimore and play a doubleheader before they play 6 more games before the All Star break. So, I suppose they have a legit gripe. But….damn Yankees….
