Thursday, June 7th POD goes to Kevin Smith
There were a lot of deserving candidates for today’s POD but Kevin Smith’s 4-for-5 game just could go unrewarded. Smith entered the game batting .160 with a double and one RBI in 6 games in the Florida State League. He is now batting a healthy .267 and hit his first FSL home run.
Last year’s 4th round pick was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat in the 1st inning and was forced out on a Bradley Jones double play.
The 21-yr-old infielder singled to leadoff the 3rd inning and scored on a fielding error on a Kacy Clemens groundball. He singled in the 4th inning and 6th inning but was stranded both times.
With the score 4 to 0 for the Blue Jays, Kevin Smith came to the plate with John La Prise and Joshua Palacios on 2nd and 1st. Smith took ball one, called strike 1, ball in the dirt for ball 2, fouled off pitch number 4 for strike 2, took ball 3, and then deposited the 6th pitch of the at-bat over the left-center field wall for a 3-run home run. Dunedin 7 and Charlotte 0.
He would ground out in his final at-bat in the 9th inning.
Overall, Kevin Smith batting .332 with 24 doubles, 4 triples, 8-HR, and 48 RBI between Lansing (46 GP) and Dunedin (7).
Bo and Vlad Show
Vladimir Guerrero Jr did not play after exiting yesterday’s game. Vlad Jr will likely get a few more than 2 days off.
Bo Bichette played short and batted clean up with Vlad Jr on the mend. Bo went 0-for-3 and drove in his 27th RBI while stealing his 17th base of the season. Bichette is batting .274 with a .772 OPS.
