POD Honorable Mention:

  • Buffalo’s bullpen (5.0IP, 5-H, 3-BB, 3-K). Murphy Smith (see above) for starting.
  • Dunedin’s Kevin Smith (1-for-5, with a solo HR), Logan Warmoth (2-for-3, R, RBI), and David Jacob (2-for-4, 2B, RBI).
  • Lansing’s Yelstin Gudino (2-for-4, R), Brandon Grudzielanek (2-for-4, 2B, RBI)
  • DSL- Jhon Solarte (3-for-5, R, 2B), Miguel Hiraldo (2-for-4, R, 2B, BB), Pedro Hurtado (2-for-5, 2-R, 2B), Santos Moreno (see above), and Rainer Nunez for hitting a game-winning grand slam.

Thursday, June 14th POD goes to T.J. Zeuch.

The Fisher Cats starter (see pitching line above) threw 58 of his 86 pitches for strikes. He got 15 groundball outs and 3 flyball outs. T.J. finished the game with two double plays, three batters swinging at strike three.

The 2016 1st round pick had three innings where he needed less than 10 pitches to retire the side. He needed just 9 pitches to get through the 2nd inning, 7 pitches to get through the 4th inning, 6 pitches to get through the 6th inning.  In his last two innings, T.J. Zeuch needed just 11 pitches in the 7th and 8th innings to retire the side.

That is utter dominance.

T.J. Zeuch has now allowed just 2 runs in his last three starts. Including this start, Zuech has gone at least 7.0 innings his last 3 starts. With 51.1 Double-A innings under his belt, T.J. is holding opponents to a .236 batting average and owns a 1.17 WHIP thanks to allowing just 15 walks. He continues to generate a lot of groundball outs, 57.4 GB% since joining the Fisher Cats rotation on May 8th.

His 4.16 FIP and 4.36 xFIP suggest some regression may be around the corner but I think Zeuch will be in Buffalo long before that happens. Overall, T.J. Zeuch owns a record of 8-5 and 3.08 ERA in 14 starts. He has 2 complete games and a shutout. T.J. has walked 24 batters and struck out 51.

Bo and Vlad Show

Vladimir Guerrero Jr remains of the 7-day DL and will be shut down for 4-ish weeks.

Bo Bichette went o-for-4 with a strikeout in the Fisher Cats win but is still batting .324 over his last 10 games. Bo is batting .284 with 5 HR and 32 RBI.
