Monday, July 9th POD goes the Maverik Buffo

Making his Advanced-A debut, Maverik Buffo turned in his best pitching performance of 2018 and maybe his professional career with a game score of 85. The former 34th round selection threw 69 of his 92 pitches for strikes while getting 7 groundball outs and 6 flyball outs.

The 22-yr-old right-hander retired the side in order in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th innings.

Mickey Moniak got the Threshers first hit of the game with a one-out single in the 2nd inning off Buffo. Buffo walked the next batter but got a swinging strikeout and a groundball to end to strand two baserunners.

After the 2nd inning walk, Maverik Buffo retired 10 in a row before a 5th inning single to Gabriel Lino. Buffo got the next batter, Raul Rivas, to pop up to 3rd base to end the inning.

Buffo opened the 6th inning with a pair of K’s before surrendering the only Threshers extra-base hit of the game to Henri Lartigue. Jose Pujols flew out to LF to end the threat as Buffo retired the next 6 batters he faced in order for a debut to remember.

Overall, Maverik picked up his 10th victory of 2018 and now has 67 strikeouts and 17 walks in 90.1 innings. He owns a 3.89 ERA and 1.34 WHIP and opponents are batting .297 off him. He has definitely earned another FSL start.
