Friday, August 3rd POD goes to three LHP starter who provided their respective teams with quality starts (Zach Logue, Jordan Barrett, and Randy Pondler)
Dunedin’s Zach Logue continues his breakout season with six one-hit shutout innings against a very good (58-48) Charlotte Stone Crabs squad. He allowed a single in the 2nd inning and a 5th inning leadoff walk while pounding the strike zone with 52 strikes in 79 pitches. He finished with a game score of 80 along with seven groundball outs and one fly ball out. Between Lansing and Dunedin, the 6-foot-0 lefty owns a record of 10-3 with a 2.67 ERA while maintaining a 1.11 WHIP.
Promoted to Lansing on July 9th, the 23-yr-old Jordan Barrett appears to be finding his footing with the Lugnuts with two quality starts in his last three GS. The 6-foot-4 lefty blanked the Cubs over the first 6 innings allowing four singles and a walk before running into some trouble in the 7th inning. Barrett struck out the leadoff batter before surrendering a single, double, single to score a run and lose the shutout. Jordan Barrett was able to finish the inning, allowing one more run to cross the plate on a sac fly and the Lugnuts were down 2-0. Barrett finished with a game score of 63, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes. He also generated nine ground ball outs and 5 fly ball outs, with one pick off.
Vancouver’s Randy Pondler allowed just one extra-base hit, a ground-rule double in the 4th inning, over 6 shutout innings. Pondler threw 53 of his 86 pitches for strikes and finished with a game score of 69. He induced nine groundball outs and four fly ball outs and finished strong by striking out the last two batters he faced in the bottom of the 6th inning. The 21-yr-old lefty from Nicaragua has allowed just 4 runs over his last 3 starts (18IP) dropping his ERA from 4.39 to 3.26. Overall, he owns a record of 4-5 with a 3.45 ERA in 10 games (9GS) which includes 4.2 innings with the Dunedin Blue Jays.
