Player of the Day

Top Performers:

Monday, August 20th POD goes to D.J. Daniels

It is not often, or ever, that a player can go hitless and still land a POD but that is what Bluefield’s number 9 hitter and left fielder did on Monday. The former 2016 6th round selection is slow to develop prospect with some tantalizing tools; unfortunately, he doesn’t appear close to reaching his potential.

Daniels drew a four-pitch walk in his 1st AB with two outs in the 3rd inning. He stole 2nd base and Cal Stevenson drove him in from 2nd base with an RBI double to put the Blue Jays on the board. 1-1.

The 6-foot-3 outfielder was at it again in the 5th inning drawing his second four-pitch walk. He stole 2nd base again. After a Cal Stevenson walk, Dominic Abbadessa stroked a two-RBI single to center for a 6 to 1 Bluefield lead.

Leading off the 7th inning, the Wilson, NC native drew another four-pitch walk and scored on Alejandro Kirk‘s groundball. No stolen base.  Score 7 to 7. The 20-yr-old outfielder grounded out in his final at-bat on the only strike he saw all night. Should’ve kept the bat on his shoulder.

D.J. Daniels played two seasons in the GCL batting .100 (36 GP) and .157 (44 GP). This season D.J. is batting .188 (35 GP). He doesn’t walk (9) or steal (2) which is why I was so pleased with Monday’s three walk, two steal performance. Over his last 10 games, Daniels is batting .261 but his playing time has been inconsistent.

Here’s hoping he can put it together before its too late.

Bo and Vlad Show

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Bisons were off on Monday. Vladdy is batting 339 in Triple-A.

Bo Bichette played SS and batted out of the leadoff spot for the NH Fisher Cats. He picked up three singles in five at-bats and drove in two runs. Bo is batting .280 on the season.
