Join Jays From the Couch as we cover the progress of Toronto Blue Jays prospects in Fall and Winter Leagues this offseason
You’ll notice a couple names missing for this update with several guys electing to test the free agent market.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has yet to hit a home run in 18 games. He has 7 doubles, 15 RBI, 6 BB, 3 K, and 2 SB with a .351 batting average. Vladdy has gone 2-for-18 in his last three games.
Cavan Biggio has gotten stronger the deeper into the AFL season he’s gone. Biggio went 1-for-4 with two RBI on November 1st and 3-for-4 with an RBI on November 6th to pump his batting average to .273. He has two HR with 9 RBI and 3 doubles in 16 games.
Santiago Espinal had hits 6 straight games with 3 multi-hit games during this stretch to end October. He’s gone 0-for-7 in 2 November starts. Espinal is batting .250 with 3 doubles, a triple, and 2-RBI in 12 games
Zach Jackson has appeared in 7 games with a record of 1-0 and a 4.38 ERA. He allowed 2 runs on October 29th but turned in back-to-back scoreless appearances of 2.0IP each which he struck out 5 combined while walking just 2. In his last appearance, Nov. 9th, Jackson allowed one run on a hit and a pair of free passes in one inning of work.
Jackson McClelland has looked really strong in his last three appearances since allowing 4 runs on Oct 30th. McClelland walked and struck out one in 1IP on the 2nd of November and walked one and struck out 2 in 1IP on Nov 6th. Overall, McClelland owns a 0-0 record and 3.60 ERA with 7BB and 12K over 10IP. The BB are a little high but no complaints about his 100mph FB.
Shawn Morimando pitched 3.2 scoreless frames on Halloween to lower his ERA to 7.45. He also walked a pair, struck out 3 batters, and allowed 3 hits. The lefty kept the momentum going allowing 3 runs on 6 hits over 5IP on November 5th. He walked one and struck out 3 in the ND. He now owns a 5.40 ERA with 6 walks and 14 K in 14.2IP.
Nate Pearson is not having a very good time in Arizona but turned in a strong effort on Nov 7th. Big Nate did not allow a hit or issue a walk in 4.0IP. He struck out 5 and continues to get attention for his triple-digit FB. He has 21 K in 15.1IP; unfortunately, he also has 11 BB but just 1BB in his last 8IP.
Tigres de Aragua (ARA)
IF Yeltsin Gudino– The 21-yr-old infielder pushed his batting average to .333 with a 3-for-4, 2-R, 1-RBI game on October 30th. Gudino picked up a pinch-hit on November 1st but nothing over his last 10 at-bats. He is now batting .264 in 20 games.
IF Kevin Vicuna– The 20-yr-old infielder is batting .286 with 14 hits, a double, and 3-RBI. Vicuna has started more in November responding with a 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 games on the 3rd and 8th.
P Nicolas Medina– The 18-yr-old lefty pitched a third of an inning on the 4th and 7th, both clean appearances. He owns a 1-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in 11 games.
P Elio Silva– The 23-yr-old continues to see limited action as he last pitched on October 31st, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in 1.0IP. His ERA ballooned to 32.40 ERA allowing 7 runs in 1.2 IP.
Tomateros de Culiacan (CUL)
OF Roemon Fields– In 16 games, Fields owns a .305 batting with 18 hits in 59 at-bats. Fields has 3 doubles with no RBI but he’s stolen 5 bases. Fields has shown good plate discipline this offseason with 7 BB and 9 K, good for a .379 OBP. Roemon appeared in two games since the last update going 1-for-4 and 1-for-3 on the 1st and 9th.
P Francisco Rios- last pitched on October 23rd. Rios doesn’t have a record but owns a 12.00 ERA over 3.0 IP.
Liga de Beisbol Dominicano
Leones del Escogido (ESC)
OF Jonathan Davis– hasn’t played since October 26th. He’s struggled to hit, batting .129 in 8 games.
