Player of the Day

Saturday, April 13th POD goes to Alberto Mineo

This POD has more do with what the 24-yr-old catcher has accomplished over the past 6 games than what he accomplished on Saturday. Also, other than Fields’ day or Larkins’ performance, there weren’t many other options. Lastly, this gives me a chance to give some love to a guy who has worked very hard at becoming a very good minor league catcher.

The native of Gorizia, Italy, went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Fisher Cats 9 to 6 loss. Mineo picked up an RBI in the 1st inning, scoring Santiago Espinal to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead. His other hit, a single, came in the 6th inning with 2-outs. A pair of singles and an RBI, not a very exciting POD.

That’s where you are wrong.

Alberto Mineo’s 2-hit game on Saturday was his 4th 2-hit game in a row and 5th in the past 6 games. Mineo has benefited from Max Pentecost‘s retirement with more playing time. Mineo has hit safely in all but one of his 7 games. He has seen he role in the Fisher Cats’ lineup increase, from batting 8th on Opening Day on April 4th to batting 3rd on April 10th. Mineo appears to have found a home batting cleanup. Manager Mike Mordecai has even had Mineo DH to get his bat in the lineup.

2-hit Games

April 6th- batting 8th, Mineo went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk (intentional), and a pair of strikeouts

April 10th- batting 3rd as the DH, Mineo went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

April 11th- behind the plate and batting 4th, Mineo went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of strikeouts.

April 12th- bating 3rd as the DH, Mineo went 2-for-4, with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a strikeout.

Overall, Mineo owns a 4-game multi-hit streak. He is batting .367 with a pair of doubles, 3 RBI, a walk, 8 strikeouts, and a .820 OPS.

The Bo and Vlad Show

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was not in the Bisons’ lineup.

Bo Bichette leadoff for Buffalo and played SS. Bo singled in the 5th and 9th inning, hitting a 2-run homer (1st AAA home run) in the 7th inning. Bichette drove in 3 runs and pushed his batting average up to .222.
