Player of the Day

Monday, May 13th POD goes to Jackson Rees (see below)

Scoreless Inning

Jackson Rees– the 24-yr-old non-drafted free agent earned his 1st career save. Jackson allowed a hit and a walk, striking out 2 batters in the 9th inning on Monday. The scoreless inning extended his scoreless streak to 16.0 innings (one unearned run). Opponents are batting .145 BA off the 6-foot-4 right-hander out of Aliso Viejo, CA. He’s surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks while setting down 29 batters via the 3rd strike. He owns a 0.53 WHIP, a .292 BABIP, a 0.05 FIP, and 0.22 xFIP. He is also a proud owner of an insane 8.00 GO/AO which he increased from 7.50 with another groundball out in Monday’s game.  Rees has an outstanding 70.8GB%.

In 9 appearances, the Hawaii alumni has struck out 2 or more batters in each appearance. He struck out 8 batters over 5 innings on April 5th. He struck out 5 batters on May 1st during a 2IP relief appearance. Through 8 appearances, Rees was striking out 51.9% of the batters he faced for a 16.20K/9 rate.

Jackson Rees has not allowed a hit in 4-of-9 relief appearances. He walked one batter in his 2019 debut appearance on April 6th and one more 7 appearances later. Jackson Rees owns a 0.63 WHIP.

Nick Podkul On-Base Streak

The Lansing Lugnuts Nick Podkul extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a single and double in 4 plate appearances on Monday. He scored a run and struck out, batting .293 with a .423 on-base percentage.

The Biggio and Groshans Show

Cavan Biggio– and the Buffalo Bisons enjoyed a scheduled off day on Monday. Biggio is batting .327 with 3 doubles, a triple, 6 HR, 22 RBI, 27 walks, and 21 strikeouts. He owns a healthy 1.001 OPS, .215 ISO, and .437 wOBA. Cavan Biggio is walking 20% of the time and striking out 15.6% of the time for a 1.29 BB/K ratio.

Jordan Groshans– The 19-yr-old was penciled in to act as the Lansing Lugnuts DH and bat cleanup. Unfortunately, Jordan was removed from the game in the first inning prior to registering a plate appearance. This is definitely not good news. When on the field, Groshans is batting .337 with a .4127 OBP and .482 slugging percentage.
