Player of the Day
Sunday, May 19th POD goes to Norberto Obeso
The 23-yr-old outfielder played RF in game 1, going 0-for-2 with a walk, and played LF in game 2, going 3-for-5. Let’s ignore the game 1 results, focusing on game 2 results.
In the 1st innings, Obeso grounded out. With 4 runs already crossing home plate in the 2nd innings, Obeso hit his 6th double to drive in Cal Stevenson with the D-Jays 5th run of the inning. He advanced to 3rd on the play. Norberto scored on Cullen Large’s sac fly to CF.
In the 4th inning, the native of Mexico hit a fly ball out to LF. He led off the 5th inning with a single, advanced to 2nd base with Large taking ball four. He was stranded at 2nd as Christopher Bec, Kacy Clemens, and Demi Orimoloyoe went down swinging.
With the score 13 to 4, Obeso smacked a triple (2) to CF, clearing the bases of Samad Taylor and Cal Stevenson to push the lead to 15 to 4. Cullen Large drove Obeso home with another sac fly.
Norberto Obeso owns a .291 batting average with a .785 OPS. Entering play he owned a .373BABIP, .343 wOBA, and 120 wRC+ in 24 games.
