Wednesday, June 5th POD goes to Yennsy Diaz

 

Diaz threw 60 of his 89 pitches for strikes. He induced 9 groundball outs versus 4 flyball outs. Yennsy collected three swinging strikeouts and one called 3rd strike.

 

The only run the 22-yr-old out of Azua, Dominican Republic surrendered came in the 3rd inning.  Diaz allowed a single and stolen base to Ryan McKenna who scored on an Austin Hayes double. Yusniel Diaz almost made it 2 to 0 but Hayes was held up at 3rd base. Yennsy Diaz struck out Anderson Feliz. Yusniel Diaz was gunned down attempting to steal 2nd base by Riley Adams to end the inning.

 

Diaz has 1-2-3 innings in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. He surrendered a 2-out walk in the 7th inning, retiring 10 in a row.

 

This was the 3rd time in five starts where Diaz pitched 7 innings. In 11 games, Diaz owns a 4-4 record with a 3.71 ERA. He has walked 26 batters and allowed 47 hits over 60.2IP for a 1.20WHIP. Diaz has a 7.71K/9, 3.86BB/9 and is holding opponents to a .211 batting average. His FIP and xFIP are 4.31 and 4.24. Yennsy Diaz cannot be considered a groundball pitcher or flyball pitcher, allowing 41.7GB% and 42.9FB%.

 

On-Base Streak

 

Forrest Wall saw his 15-game hit streak come to an end. He played CF and batted leadoff for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The former 2012 1st rounder went 0-for-5 with the golden sombrero (4K). He is batting .303 with 17 doubles, 35 runs scored, 3 triples, 3 HR, and 8 SB with a .868OPS in 52 games.

 

The Griffin Conine and Alejandro Kirk Show

 

Griffin Conine played in RF and batted 3rd for the Lugnuts. The 21-yr-old former 2nd round went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run (4), an RBI(9), a walk, a strikeout, and a stolen base.  He is batting .462 as he continues to impress after servicing a 50-game suspension.

 

Alejandro Kirk appeared behind the plate for the D-Jays, batting 4th. Kirk went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. The 20-yr-old’s is batting healthy .352 with 14RBI, 9/99 BB/K in 21 games in the Florida State League.
