Player of the Day

Thursday, July 4th POD goes to Josh Winckowski

Promoted from Lansing June 22nd, the 21-yr-old righty had not allowed a run over his first 9 FSL innings. Winckowski dominated the Midwest League winning 6 games and taking 3 loses. He left Lansing with a 2.32ERA and a 1.19WHIP while posting a 3.25FIP and 3.37xFIP in 73.2IP. Josh struck out 8.67/9IP and walked 3.18/9IP.

On Thursday, Josh Winckowski was at his best, striking out 6 batters and walking one while surrendering just one hit over 7 shutout innings. Josh threw 58 of his 82 pitches for strikes, inducing 8 groundball outs and 4 flyball outs.

Kody Clemens collected the only Lakeland Flying Tigers hit off Winckowski in the 1st inning, a single. Winckowski walked the next batter but struck out Nick Ames to end the bottom of the 1st inning and the Flying Tigers chances of winning. Josh retired the next 18 batters in order, needing just 8 pitches to retire the side in the 7th inning, his final frame.

In 3 appearances, Josh Winckowski is 2-0 with a 0.00ERA, 4 hits, 2BB, and 8K in 16IP. Hopefully, he can keep this up.

The Bo Bichette and Griffin Conine Show

Bo Bichette batted leadoff and played SS for the Buffalo Bisons. He went 1-for-5 with a solo home run leading off the 9th inning. Bichette struck out twice and owns a 20.0K% as a member of the Buffalo Bisons. He owns a .356BABIP and .359wOBA in 35 games while generating a .172ISO thanks to 9 doubles, a triple, and 4HR.

Griffin Conine played RF and batted cleanup for the Lansing Lugnuts. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Conine owns a .330ISO with 6 doubles, two triples, and 9 home runs in 30 games. His .467BABIP and .482wOBA show lots of room for regression but we’ve been expecting that to happen for about a month and it has yet to happen. His 33.6K% is still really high but he continues to walk at 10.9% rate which is nice to see.
