Player of the Day

Friday, July 5th POD goes to Richard Urena

The 23-yr-old continues to go quietly about his business with the Buffalo Bisons. Aside from a cold May which saw Urena bat just .196, the Bisons’ infielder is having a strong season at Triple-A. Playing 2B and batting 5th, Richard Urena went 3-for-5, scoring a run, and driving in a pair.

Urena drove in Socrates Brito in the 1st inning for Buffalo’s 2nd run with a single to RF. He later scored off a Reese McGuire single to CF to make it 3 to 0 for the Herd. Richard singled in the 3rd but was left stranded. He grounded into an inning-ending DP in the 6th but singled in another run, Brito, in the 8th to push Buffalo’s lead to 8 to 2.

The switch-hitting infielder is batting .303 over his last 10 games to push his season batting average to .262 in 54 games. He has 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 HR to go along with 28RBI and a .659OPS. He just doesn’t like to walk, walking just 8 times while striking out 49 times.

The Bo Bichette and Griffin Conine Show

Bo Bichette continues to make a push for the BIGS with another impressive game for the Buffalo Bisons. Batting out of his usual spot and playing SS, Bichette went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored (24), 2 doubles (11), 1HR (5), 2RBI (24), a walk (14), a strikeout (31), and a stolen base (12). He is batting .317 over his last 10 games which has pushed his batting average to .309 and his OPS to .885.

Griffin Conine had himself a day, going 3-for-4, 2 runs scored (25), 2 doubles (8), 3RBI (26), and a strikeout. Conine is batting .368 over his last 10 games with 3HR, 9RBI, and 6 runs scored. Overall, Conine is batting .345 with a 1.105OPS in 31 games.
