Top Performers:

Player of the Day

Monday, July 8th POD goes to Miguel Hiraldo

There weren’t many good choices, so I decided to do a quick highlight of a guy who could one day be the Blue Jays #1 Top Prospect. It helped that he hit a HR and is playing well.

The 18-yr-old out of Santiago, DR, played second base and batted second for the Bluefield Blue Jays. After playing most of his games as a SS in 2018, Hiraldo is primarily playing 2B for Bluefield. This might have more to do with Leonardo Jimenez playing the same level than an indication of Hiraldo’s ability to field the position. On the other hand, he does commit a few errors (21 in 50GP in 2018 at SS).

Hiraldo has played 18 games and has 9 multi-hit games, 7 in his last 9 games. He went 2-for-5 with a run scored, a home run, and an RBI on Monday. It was the 5-foot-11’s 3rd long ball of the year, coming in the 5th inning with one out. He singled in the 7th inning to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs; unfortunately, Ryan Sloniger grounded into a rally-killing double play.

Trevor Schwecke, 21-yr-old, 2019 13th round selection has played well for the Vancouver Canadians. He is splitting his time between 3B, 2B, and SS. He is batting .287 with 5 doubles, and a 9/23 BB/K in 22 games.

Luis De Los Santos, 21-yrs-old, has not performed well at the plate. He is batting just .221 with 7 doubles and 2BB/12K in 18 games.

I feel that Hiraldo should more up to replace either one of this fine young men as the C’s everyday middle infielder. After all, he is batting .315 with 4 doubles, 3HR, 10RBI, 3BB/12K, 3SB in 18 games with a .852OPS. The Rookie Advanced Appalachian League is clearly not challenging him enough. Maybe Short-Season A-Ball will.

The Bo Bichette and Griffin Conine Show

Bo Bichette…..All-Star break.

Griffin Conine went 1-for-3 with a strikeout. Conine now has 51 strikeouts in 34 games while collecting 8 doubles, 2 triples, and 10 longballs. He is batting .336 with a 1.087OPS.
