Player of the Day

Friday, August 2nd POD goes to Brock Lundquist

I’ve been watching the 23-yr-old outfield quietly get his season back on track, finishing off a dreadful July with several multi-hit games. Lundquist has 4 hits in his last two games, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, 3RBI, and two K’s on Friday.

Playing LF and batting 5th, the native of Fountain Valley, CA., doubled in the 4th (16) tying the game up 4-4. Josh Palacios and Riley Adams scored on the play. Lundquist scored off a Chad Spanberger triple (1) to give NH the lead.

Lundquist singled in the 5th, scoring Forrest Wall to extend the Fisher Cats lead to 5-3. He struck out in his final at-bat.

The former 6th round selection is having a down season. May was his best month, batting .309 with .818OPS; unfortunately, Lundquist posted sub .200BA and .600OPS in April and June. July wasn’t much better (.225BA and .596OPS) but he helped himself with a stretch of 10 games where he posted a .364BA with 6 runs scored and 7RBI. He is batting .237 with a .658OPS and 16 doubles, 2 triples, 3HR (major disappointment), 35RBI, and 86K in 86 games with the Fisher Cats.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show

Kevin Smith went hitless in 4 at-bats and struck out twice. Smith has a .324BA with 1HR and 5RBI in his last 10 games. After collecting multi-hit games in 4 of 5 games between July 26th to July 30th, Smith has gone hitless over his last 3 games (0-for-11 with 5K and 1BB). Smith is batting .211 with a .686OPS and 16HR.

Griffin Conine went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Conine has hits in 5 straight games to pump his batting average up to .282 from .274. He still strikes out too much with 20K in his previous 10 games and 87 in 53 games but the consistently hitting the ball hard has allowed him to carry a .947OPS.
