Player of the Day

Thursday, August 8th POD goes to Rowdy Tellez

Buffalo’s 1st baseman and cleanup hitter collected a pair of doubles and a single in the Herd’s loss. He also scored a run and drew a walk.

Rowdy leadoff the 2nd inning with a 4-pitch walk. Patrick Kivlehan and Dalton Pompey followed suit to load the bases with no-out. Andy Burns and Patrick Cantwell struck out on 3 pitches each……how do you go up hacking after 3 consecutive walks, with two of them being 4-pitch walks? Anyways, Rowdy was stranded.

Tellez leadoff the 4th inning with a double (7) but was stranded again. Tellez doubled in the 6th inning and was brought home on a Patrick Kivlehan double to open the scoring. Buffalo 1-0. He singled in his final at-bat putting runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 8th inning. Kivlehan grounded into a double-play to end the threat.

Since being sent down on July 15th, the 24-yr-old is batting .366 with 8 doubles, 7HR, and 20RBI. He has a .454OPB and 1.173OPS in 23 games. He has reached base in every game and he is riding a 9-game hit streak, batting .457 with 9 runs scored, 2HR, 11RBI, 8/9 BB/K over his last 10 games.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show

Kevin Smith played SS and batted cleanup for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout. Smith is batting .217 with a .700OPS, 17HR, and 54RBI. He is batting .265 over his last 10 games.

Griffin Conine played RF and batted cleanup. He went 1 for 3 with a walk and of course a pair of K’s. The 22-yr-old swiped his 2nd base of the season. He extended his strikeout streak to 18 games, dating back to July 17th. Conine is batting .277 with a .923OPS.
