Player of the Day

Friday, August 9th POD goes to Yorman Rodriguez

After 280 minor league games, the former 2014 International Free Agent made his Full-Season A-Ball debut. A well earned promotion. In 40 games with Vancouver, Yorman batted .369 with 25 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 4HR, 21RBI, and 9/12 BB/K.

In game #1 with Lansing, Yorman played 1st base and batted 2nd. He grounded into a double play in his 1st at-bat. In the 3rd inning, Yorman Rodriguez doubled in Hunter Steinmetz with the Lugnuts 1st run and Rodriguez’ 1st RBI. Yorman would come around to score the Lugs 2nd run on a Rafael Lantigua sac fly.

The native of Maracay, Venezuela hit a triple in his next at-bat. He scored Hunter Steinmetz and Otto Lopez to give the Bolts a 5 to 1 advantage. The 22-yr-old scored on a Gabriel Moreno sac fly. Lansing 6 to 1 lead.

Yorman Rodriguez singled to leadoff the 6th inning, stole 2nd base, and scored off a Griffin Conine single. 6 to 2. His final at-bat resulted in a 7th inning single.

The final line, 4-for-5, 3 runs scored, a double, a triple, 3 runs batted in, and a stolen base. At 5-foot-10, Yorman Rodiguez is under-sized to play 1st. His next natural position was C but he’s only played 6 games there in 2019 after playing 101 games over the previous four seasons.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show

Kevin Smith played SS and batted 5th for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Smith went o-for-4 with 3K’s. He is batting .214.

Griffin Conine played RF and batted cleanup. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a walk, and of course a K. The 22-yr-old extended his strikeout streak to 19 games, dating back to July 17th. Conine is batting .308 with 3HR and 7RBI over his last 10 games. He is batting .281 with a .927OPS in 59 games.
