Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Comparing the Blue Jays signing of Vladdy to the other 2015 IFA signings

  • Join Jays From the Couch as we look back at the players signed during the 2015 International Free Agent period

The Blue Jays went big when they handed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 4.1M during the International Free Agent signing period in 2015. Vladdy moved quickly through Toronto’s farm system and reached the Major Leagues in 2019.

Obviously, there were many many more international free agents signed not listed above. Feel free to include other 2015 IFA signed that I’ve forgotten. We can safely say that Juan Soto was the best IFA signing in 2015 thus far. Soto reached the MLB in 2018 and was signed for just 1.5M. Fernando Tatis Jr. is not far behind Soto with his monster rookie season for the Padres and his low 700K signing bonus.

A lot of talent from 2015 still remains in the minors with Fox, Tavarez, Gimenez, and Pache making a push for the major leagues in 2020. The Blue Jays have a chance at seeing Maximo Castillo join Vladdy in Toronto in the next season or two. Dany Jimenez could be an option to be picked by another team in this year’s Rule V Draft or be added to the Blue Jays 40-man roster.
