Jays Nest Podcast Ep63: Spring Training, Baby!

Jays From the Couch brings you Episode 63 of the Jays Nest Podcast. This week we discuss all the Blue Jays story lines as Spring Training games begin!

On the eve of the Toronto Blue Jays are about to begin playing ‘real’ games, Jays From the Couch records Episode 63 of the Jays Nest Podcast. This week’s episode looks at the many stories that have evolved as players reported for Spring Training 2016. From ridiculous contract rumoring to minor league deals to roster construction, the Jays Nest Podcast covers it all.

The Jays’ Nest Podcast- Talking Toronto Blue Jays – Jays Nest #63- Spring Training, Baby!

In This Week’s Episode:

  • It’s been a few days, but we managed to digest the Jose Bautista contract hoopla and discussed the marketing prowess of the player and how effective his strategy might be.
  • In contrast, the situation that Edwin Encarnacion finds himself in with his contract is in stark contrast to his slugging friend. In fact, the two situations are direct mirrors of the personalities of the players.
  • Rather than dwell on hypotheticals and speculation, we looked at things that actually happened: the signings of Rafael Soriano and Domonic Brown. We chat about the impact these moves have on the club and its search for depth.
  • From there, we talk about the first game of the 2016 season. Even though it is just Spring Training, it is exciting. We offer our take on whether it is a big deal that the regulars aren’t going to see time for days.
  • With games starting, that means that lineup construction will be a topic of debate. We look at the news that Troy Tulowitzki will hit in the 5th spot and what that means for the lineup as well as the player.
  • From there we banter around the early 2016 playoff odds. That’s right, we’re looking at the first game of Spring Training and we get playoff odds.
