Blue Jays Minor League Recap: 08/04/16

The Blue Jays system collected 1 win and 2 losses. Mother Nature continues to play around with the Lansing Lugnuts season opener, but they’ll get it in eventually

 

 

Buffalo Bisons (0-1)

The Herd were completely shut down by Henry Owens and the Pawtucket Red Sox in their home opener.

At the Plate

Henry Owens held the herd to 3 hits. The Herd walked 3 times, with 14 strike outs.

On the Mound

Drew Hutchison (L, 0-1) threw 5 innings allowing one run on one hit. He 2 walks and 9 strike outs. Hutch finished strong striking out 6 of the 9 between the 3rd and 5th innings.  Ben Rowen came on to pitch the 6th and struck out 3 and walked 2. Dustin Antolin made his Triple-A debut, allowing a run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 4 strike outs in 2 innings.

Person of Interest/Top Prospects

Dalton Pompey– DNP

Andy Burns– Playing 2nd and batting leadoff, Burns went 0-for-3 with a walk and 2K.

Chad Girodo– DNP

New Hampshire Fisher Cats  (0-1)

The Fisher Cats drop their Opener.

At the Plate

NH batters were held to 3 hits. Melky Mesa accounted for the only run with a HR. 

On the Mound

 NH used 3 pitchers, Jeremy Gabryszwski, Brady Dragmire and Colt Hynes (L, 0-1). Gabby allowed a HR in the 3rd and Hynes allowed the winning run to cross on an RBI double. 

Top Prospects

Roemon Fields– Leadoff, went 1-for-4 with a K and 2SB

Rowdy Tellez– Batting 4th. Went 0-for-4 with K

Dwight Smith Jr.- Batted 3rd. 0-for-4 with 2K

Brady Dragmire- Pitched the 6th and 7th. Allowed no runs on one hit while striking out one in 1.1IP.He threw 17 pitches, 10 for strikes.

Dunedin Blue Jays  (2-0)

The D-Jays win 8-2. Tied 2-2 heading into the 6th, the D-Jays broke the game open with a 3-spot and followed that up with another 3-spot in the 8th.

At the Plate

All but one D-Jay collected at least one hit, pounding out 13 hits. Christian Lopes was the man of the hour with a 2-for-3  night with 2R, a triple and a HR. Lopes collected 4RBI and walked 2 twice. 4 batters had 2 hits.

On the Mound

Poor start by Tom Robson. Alonzo Gonzalez, Brad Allen (W, 1-0), and Adonys Cardona threw 6 innings of shut out relieve. Jose Fernandez allowed one run on 3 walks. Chris Rowley allowed 2 hits but no runs in his inning.

Player of Interest/Top Prospects

Tom Robson- Lasted one inning, allowing 2ER, walked 3 and struck out 2. He faced 8 batters and needed 38 pitches to get out of the inning. 

Anthony Alford– DNP

Richard Urena– Batting 2nd, Richard went 2-for-5 with an RBI, 2K, and a CS.

Conner Greene– DNP

D.J. Davis– Batting 6th, D.J. went 2-for-5 with 2R

Ryan Borucki– DNP

Dan Jansen- Batting 7th, Danny went 1-for-3 with 2R, 2BB, and a K

Mitch Nay– 7-day DL

Ryan McBroom– Batting 4th, Ryan went 2-for-5 with a K

Adonys Cardona- Pitched a good 7th inning, needing just 19 pitches to get 3 outs.

Next Game: The Lugnuts website shows that Ryan Cook will go up against the Loons Isaac Anderson, but with two games being snowed out, the Lugnuts could shuffle the rotation and send SFR and Jon Harris to the bump.
