Blue Jays Minor League Recap: 11/04/16

The Toronto Blue Jays system went 2-1 in games played on April 11th, 2016. Rowdy Tellez and Ryan McBroom go yard for the first time in 2016


Buffalo Bisons (2-2)

Andy Burns– Has yet to collect a hit in 4 games. Played 2nd and batted lead-off. Walked, scored a run and struck out.

Next Game: TBD. With yesterday’s postponement the Herd will play a doubleheader to open the 3-game set against Syracuse.


New Hampshire Fisher Cats (1-2)

The Fisher Cats drop the series opener, 4-1, to  the Hartford Yard Goats.

At the Plate

NH was held to 6 hits, with Rowdy Tellez accounting for the teams only run. Jon Berti and K.C. Hobson collected 2 hits a piece. Hobson off to another hot start, he hit .280 in April last year but failed to reach that mark for the rest of 2015. Hobson would finish with a .240 BA and 14HR. The Fisher Cats were 0-for-5 with RISP. 

On the Mound

Jason Berken (L, 0-1) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 3BB and 2K while allowing 1HR over 5IP. Daniel Schlereth came on in the 6th and allowed one run on no hits, 2BB, and 2K over 1.1IP. Daniel threw 11 of his 25 pitches for strikes. Wil Browning pitched 1.2IP, allowing a run to score on one hit, while walking one and striking out three. The three pitchers combined to walk 6 batters and strike out 7.

Dunedin Blue Jays (3-2)

The D-Jays win a sloppy game, 4-3, against St. Lucie. Dunedin committed 2 errors and St. Lucie committed 3.

At the Plate

The D-Jays top of the order came through, collecting all 5 hits, 4 runs, and RBI’s. Ryan McBroom hit his first home run of 2016 and first as a D-Jay. Christian Lopes, Richard Urena, and J.D. Davis collected the other D-Jay hits. J.D. Davis had a really good game going 2-for-4 with 3 runs, and a double.

On the Mound

Luis Santos pitched 2 innings with a walk and 2 strike outs, while allowing 2 hits. Brad Allen picked up his second win of the young season (W, 2-0), throwing 52 pitches over 4.0IP. Allen struck out 5 and allowed 2 hits, but didn’t allow a run or issue a walk. Adonys Cardona, Tim Mayza, and Matt Dermody (SV, 1) each pitched one inning. Mayze struggled in his inning, allowing 3 runs (one earned), 4 hits with no walks or strike outs.

Lansing Lugnuts (1-1)

Lansing rally in the bottom of the 8th for their first win of 2016. 

At the Plate

Each Lugnut in the starting 9 collected at least one hit with Justin Atkinson, and Jacob Anderson collected 2-hits each. The Lunguts collected 11-hits, 3 doubles, and a HR, while going 5-for 10 with RISP. Gunnar Heidt hit his first home runs and stole his first base, while Carl Wise was picked off. Jacob Anderson has looked good so far, the former comp pick has good skills and could really give the system a lift if he could put things together in Lansing in ’16.

On the Mound

Four Lansing pitchers took the mound, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 long balls, while walking 3 and striking out 13. Starter Francisco Rios allowed one run on 3 hits with a walk and 4K’s while generating 4GB against 0FO. Conor Fisk (W, 1-0) got the win despite allowing 2 runs in the top half of the 8th on 2 hits a walk and 2K. Colton Turner (SV, 1) closed the door for his first save.
