Blue Jays Minor League Recap: 12/04/16

The Toronto Blue Jays system went 3-2 in games played on April 12th, 2016. Buffalo split. Shane Dawson dominated. Dunedin was shutout. Sean Reid-Foley looked good in first start

 

 

Good news from the business side, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Buffalo Bisons will continue to be affiliated to the end of the 2018 season.

 

Buffalo Bisons (3-3, 3rd)


Game 1

At the Plate

The Herd managed two runs on 5 hits with Dalton Pompey, Andy Burns and Matt Dominguez accounting for all the hits. Jesus Montero got Buffalo on the board in the first with a sac fly,  cashing in Pompey. In the 3rd it was Burns turn to cash in Pompey, with a double to left field.

On the Mound

New Bison Chris Leroux threw 4 innings with one hit, one strike, but 5 walks. He produced 6 ground ball outs. Chad Girodo (W, 1-0) and David Aardsma (SV, 2) followed with 3 innings of one hit shutout relief. 

Game 2

At the Plate

The Bisons got 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 3 times and striking out 3 times. In the 2nd Matt Dominguez cashed in Junior Lake from third after he’d tripledto lead off the inning. In the 5th David Adams walked and scored on a Humberto Quintero double (3). The Herd’s last run came in the 6th when Domonic Brown scored on a Matt Dominguez ground out.

On the Mound

Starter Casey Lawrence was brought up from New Hampshire for a spot start. Casey allowed one run on 3 hits, a walk and 2 strike outs. Chad Jenkins followed with a run on 1.2IP. Jenkins struggled with his control, walking 3. Ben Rowen closed the game out for the Herd with 1.1IP, 2 hits. 2 walks, and 2 K’s.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (2-2 5th)

At the Plate

NH struck in the first inning when Rowdy Tellez doubled in Jon Berti. The Fisher Cats didn’t score again until the 6th when Berti led the inning off with a single and a steal of 2nd and third to put himself into scoring position for a Tellez sac fly. Matt Dean made it 3-0 with his first HR of ’16. Berti was at it again in the 8th with a walk and a steal before scoring on a Melky Mesa infield single. Berti finished with 2 hits, 3R, a double, a walk and 3 stolen bases. Not bad.

On the Mound

Shane Dawson picked up his first win Double-A with 5 shutout innings. Brady Dragmire threw two no-hit innings, followed by Colt Hynes. Colt allowed 2 hits, a walk and struck out 3. Dawson threw 51 of his 71 pitches for strikes and induced 5 groundball outs.

Dunedin Blue Jays (3-3 4th)

The D-Jays come out on the wrong end of a pitchers dual, 0-1.

At the Plate

Casey Delgado and Co. held the D-Jays to 2 hits, striking out 7 and issuing 4 walks. D.J. Davis and Ryan McBroom collected the hits for Dunedin, while Richard Urena, J.D. Davis and Derrick Loveless drew walks.

On the Mound

Top pitching prospect, Conner Greene allowed one run on 5 hits over 5 innings. Greene walked 2 and struck out 2 while inducing 8 groundball outs  and 3 flyball outs. Alonzo Gonzalez provided 2 innings of no-hit relieve. Juliandry Higuera closed things out with clean 8th inning.

Lansing Lugnuts (2-1)

Despite committing 5 errors, the Lunguts won their second game.

At the Plate

The Lugnuts got things going in the first with Gunnar Heidt’s 2nd homer of the young season, a solo shot. They scored 3 more in the 2nd on a 2-out 2RBI 2 bagger off the bat of J.C. Cardenas. J.C. advanced to third on a wild pitch with Josh Almonte at the plate and scored on a wild pitch with Gunnar Heidt at the plate.

Gunnar was at it again in the 5th with a lead-off single, a stolen base, advanced to 3rd on another wild pitch and scored on a Justin Atkinson groundball.

On the Mound

Sean Reid-Foley (W, 1-0)  walked 4 and struck out while holding the Dayton Dragons to 2 runs (0 ER) on a hit over 6.0IP. SRF threw 49 of his 74 pitches for strikes and induced 5 groundball outs and 5 fly ball outs. Starlyn Suriel allowed one hit and struck out 3 in 2.0IP and Dusty Isaacs (SV1) threw a clean 9th for the save.
