Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Recap: 17/04/16

The Toronto Blue Jays minor league system laid a big fat egg with an 0-for-4 day on games played on April 17th, 2016

 

 

Buffalo Bisons (4-7)

Buffalo fell to Pawtucket by a score of 7-4.

At the Plate

The Herd scored runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 2 in the 8th and headed into the 9th inning with a 4-3 lead.

Dalton Pompey and Matt Dominguez each had two hits and Andy Burns, Domonic Brown, Jesus Montero, and Junior Lake had one hit a piece.

Matt Dominguez hit his first home run of ’16 in the 8th scoring pitch-runner Alexi Casilla.

On the Mound

Chris Leroux (ND) went 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. Dustin Antolin allowed one run on 2 hits over 1.2IP while walking one and striking out 3. Ben Rowen and Ryan Tepera each threw no-hit innings, setting up the save for David Aardsma. Unfortunately, Aardsma blew his first save  and took his first loss of ’16. Pat McCoy had to come in to get the final out.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats  (4-5)

The Fisher Cats were out muscled, 9-4, by Trenton.

At the Plate

NH scored in the 7th and 9th, pounding out 11 hits and went 2-for-11 with RISP.

Roemon Fields, Jon Berti, Rowdy Tellez and Jorge Flores each had 2-hits with K.C. Hobson, Wilkin Castillo and Matt Dean collecting a hit a piece.

Berti, Dwight Smith Jr., Tellez and Flores each had RBI’s.

On the Mound

Starter Shane Dawson took his first loss allowing 4 runs on 6 hits over 4.1IP. Dawson struggled with his control with 4 walks and 3 K’s. Dawson threw 91 pitches and 58 were for strikes.

Murphy Smith allowed one run in 2.1IP before giving way for Brady Dragmire didn’t allow a hit in 1.1IP. Chris Smith allowed 4 runs (0ER) 3 hits with a walk and a K to close out the game.

Dunedin Blue Jays  (6-5)

Another extra inning game, but this one ended in a 7-6 loss.

At the Plate

The D-Jays pounded out 13 hits and committed 2 errors with 6 walks and 10 strike outs.

Emilio Guerrero led the way with a 4-4 game in his ’16 debut. Derrick Loveless hit his first home run, driving in 3 runs….not bad production from the 9-hole.

Richard Urena, and Jason Leblebijian each collected 2 hits. Leblebijian, Ryan McBroom, Guerrero, and D.J. Davis each hit doubles.

On the Mound

Key to this defeat was walk, and lot of them. The D-Jays walked 16 Cards.

Conner Greene didn’t have a very good start, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits over 4.1IP. Greene threw 80 pitches (44 strikes) inducing 6 GO and 6 AO. Carlos Ramirez allowed 3 runs and issued 5 walks in 1.0IP.

Adonys Cardona walked 3, but didn’t allow a run or a hit in 1.1IP. Jose Fernandez walked 5 and allowed one run in 2.1IP. Matt Dermody (L, 1-1) allowed the winning run to cross in the 10th.

Lansing Lugnuts  (5-3)

Lansing dropped the finale to Bowling Green, 5-2.

At the Plate

Lugnuts Andrew Guillotte, Justin Atkinson, Ryan Hissey, Josh Almonte and JC Cardenas each had one hit a piece with no extra base hits. Jacob Anderson went hitless but had 2 walks.

Almonte and Gunnar Heidt swiped a bag each.

On the Mound

Sean Reid-Foley (L, 1-1) took the loss allowing 3 runs (2ER) 4 walks and 4 hits over 4.2IP while striking out 4 batters. SRF threw 88 pitches with 53 strikes and 6 ground ball outs and zero flyball outs.

Evan Smith allowed 2 runs over 1.1IP, with Josh DeGraaf throwing 2 shut out innings.
