Toronto Blue Jays Social Media Buzz: Tomfoolery, Music and Throwing Down the Gauntlet

The Toronto Blue Jays Hit the Road and Talk Games, Music and Yes, the Brawl in this week’s edition of Social Media Buzz

The Blue Jays hit the road this week and the change of view helped, with the boys nabbing wins in the first two games of their four game series in Minnesota.

On the Mend

Pitcher Brett Cecil was diagnosed with a tear in his lat muscle on May 19, says Shi Davidi, and will likely miss a month. He took to Twitter that same day with this message for fans who were wishing him well:

More from The StroShow

It’s no secret that pitchers Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez have a serious bromance going on – #StroChez anyone? So Jackie Redmond and the folks at SportsNet had a little fun with it and played a modified version of The Newlywed Game with the them. (It’s worth watching to hear Sanchez’ infectious giggle alone). No questions about whoopie were asked – although the guys did reveal the worst pick up line they’ve heard from a teammate.

And if that wasn’t enough Marcus Stroman for you, you’re probably kicking yourself for not shopping Best Buy Canada more often. Stroman recently dressed up as an employee of the chain to prank unsuspecting customers and promote RBI Baseball (he’s on the cover).

Play That Funky Music

Choosing your walk-up music is an important part of every pro-baseball player’s life. Kevin Pillar got a shout out from Swedish pop sensation Zara Larsson for using her tune, “Lush Life.”

Pillar responded with an incredible offer for the singer.

In the Spotlight

Ever ready to step up and answer the tough questions, catcher Russell Martin discussed the brawl and the Jays’ performance of late with Tim and Sid.

He also discussed some of the team’s soccer prowess, their seeming obsession with Fifa Soccer and accepted Sid Seixeiro’s challenge to a game. “Any day. I’m Ready.”

SportsNet’s Arden Zwelling got an actual serious quote from newly-minted Bullpen Hero Joe Biagini for his recent article about the trust Gibbons is showing in the pitcher. Barry Davis’ 7-minute on-camera interview is also featured, (he also gets an “in all seriousness” from the quirky 25 year-old, too) and Davis’ his ability to maintain a straight-face when Biagini gets, well, quirky, is to be commended.

That’s just a taste of some of the moments in Blue Jays social media this week! Enjoy the long weekend and #GoJaysGo!
