Sunday, August 12th POD goes to Dwight Smith Jr.
DSJ has spent the year between Toronto and Buffalo and scuffled in July to a .219 batting average. He appears to have rediscovered his stroke in August with a .321 batting average in 8 games. Smith had a good game on Sunday with a single and two doubles with 3 RBI in 5 AB’s.
Batting in the two-hole and manning LF, DSJ lined out in his AB after a Jonathan Davis walk to leadoff the bottom of the 1st inning. The Bisons put up a 4 spot in the 2nd inning, Dwight contributed with a 2-RBI single to center field to score Tim Lopes and Jonathan Davis.
Leading off the 5th inning, DSJ hit 2-0 pitch into LF for his 1st double (13) of the day. Vlad, Anthony Alford, and Rowdy Tellez were unable to bring him home. He hit an infield fly for the 2nd out of the 7th inning.
In the bottom of the 10th inning with the score tied at 5’s and Jonathan Davis beginning the inning at 2nd base, Dwight Smith Jr swung through a pair of low strikes for a 0-2 count. He took ball one before ripping a pitch over the middle of the plate for a walk-off double to center field to score Jonathan Davis.
Overall, DSJ is batting .258 with 24 runs scored, 14 doubles, a triple, 4 HR, 34 RBI, 35 BB, and 40 K in 65 games at Triple-A.
Bo and Vlad Show
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went hitless with a strikeout in Buffalo’s win. He should be ashamed, only batting .395 as a 19-yr-old in Triple-A.
Bo Bichette batted leadoff and played 2B, WTF, with Santiago Espinal getting a turn at 2B for the Fisher Cats. Bo was hitless in 4 ABs with an RBI and a walk.
