Player of the Day

Friday, July 26th POD goes to Rafael Lantigua

The 21-yr-old is having an outstanding July. After batting .189 in 22 games in May and .226 in 19 games in June, Lantigua batted .347 in 21 July games. With 2 hits in 4 at-bats, the native of Puerto Plata, D.R., extended his on-base streak to 9 games.

Playing 2B and batting second, the 5-foot-8 infielder singled in his first at-bat. He advanced to 2B on a throwing error but was stranded. Lantigua extended the Lugnuts lead to 3-0 with a 2-run double (13) in 2nd inning. He drew a 4 pitch walk in the 6th but his mates failed to bring him in.

In 62 games, Rafael is batting .255 with .307OBP and 23 runs, 13 doubles, 5 triples, and no HR. He has 18 RBI, and 6 stolen bases. He’s recently moved up in the lineup with 3 games batting in the 2-hole. Lantigua has split time batting 6th, (15GP), 8th (12GP), and 9th (17GP). Over his last 10 games, Lantigua has pushed his batting up from .233 to .255 with a .325BA during this span.
