Player of the Day

Monday, August 19th POD goes to the T.J. Zeuch

Watching this no-hitter on MiLB.tv did not do his performance justice. From the 1st inning on, the 24-yr-old T.J. Zeuch dominated the Rochester Red Wings. T.J. got a 3-pitch flyout, followed by a pair of 5 pitch groundball outs. He lost the perfect game in the 3rd inning, walking Mike Miller on 6 pitches.

He needed just 5 pitches to get through the 6th inning, getting three groundball outs. One to 2nd baseman Andy Burns, one to 3rd baseman Patrick Kivlehan, and one to 1st baseman Jordan Patterson.

The 8th inning started with a 6-pitch strikeout of Brandon Barnes, followed by a line out to LF Forrest Wall. Zeuch hit Zander Wiel with a pitch but recovered with a Ronald Torreyes flyout to Jonathan Davis.

In the 9th inning, Zeuch got Mike Miller to groundout, Ian Miller to fly out to CF, and Drew Maggi to groundout to the man of the hour who throw it over to 1st man Patterson for the final out.

Jonathan Davis made an outstanding play in CF to save the no-hitter, going in hard on a sinking line drive.

Zeuch threw 73 of his 114 pitches for strikes. He got 15 groundball outs and 6 flyball outs. He set a career-high with 9 innings pitched. His previous came on a 2-hit shutout win as a member of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2018.

After suffering a lat strain in Spring Training, Zeuch was making his 11th start with the Buffalo Bisons. Entering play, Zeuch owned a 3-2 record with a 4.42ERA. He threw 6 shutout inning on August 14th to lower his ERA from 4.92. So over his last two starts, T.J. Zeuch has pitched 15 shutout innings and lowered his ERA from 4.92 to 3.84.

Can’t wait to see this worm killer in Toronto.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show
