Player of the Day

Wednesday, August 28th POD goes to the Nick Podkul

The 22-yr-old infielder had a very quiet 4-for-4 on the day. The D-Jays have played a billion double-headers in 2019, Podkul played in both ends.

Playing 3B and batting 8th in Dunedin’s 2 to 1 GM1 win, Podkul drew a walk in the 3rd inning. In the 5th, Podkul singled but was left stranded. Nick Podkul finished 1-for-1 with a walk.

Once again, Podkul manned 3B and batted out of the 8th spot. Nick Podkul singled in the 2nd inning, stranded. In the 4th, he followed up Samad Taylor’s 7th home run with a single to RF, stranded. In the 6th, Podkul singled, stole 2nd (5), and was left stranded for the 4th time today. In his final at-bat, the D-Jays 3rd baseman laid down a sac bunt to advance Samad Taylor to 3rd base.

He finished 4-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.

The 2nd year pro has struggled with FSL pitching since joining the D-Jays on June 22nd. As a member of the Lansing Lugnuts, Podkul posted a .254BA with 13 2B, 2 3B, and 2HR with a .737OPS. This 4-for-4 day pushed Podkul’s BA over .200 from .198 up to .227. He has just 3 doubles, a triple, and a HR with a .631OPS in 37 games.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show

Kevin Smith and the Fisher Cats were rained out. Overall, Smith has 48 runs scored, 21 doubles, 2 triples, 19HR, and a .674OPS.

Griffin Conine played RF and batted 3rd for the Lugnuts. Conine went 2-for-5 with 2 runs, a pair of doubles, 3RBI, and 2K’s. Over the last 10 games, the 22-yr-old has more walks than strikeouts, 12/10 BB/K along with 8 runs scored, 6RBI, and a .290BA. Overall, Conine owns a .278BA along with a .929OPS, 18 2B, 2 3B, 20HR, and 60 RBI in 76GP
