Player of the Day

Saturday, August 31st POD goes to the Jesus Lopez

Acquired from the Oakland Athletics at the end of Spring Training for Kendrys Morales, Jesus Lopez spent his 6th season at Short-Season A-Ball. Not really inspiring is it?

The 22-yr-old Lopez batted .255 with 9 doubles, one HR, 15RBI, 6BB, and 27K in 36 games with the Canadians. He was promoted on August 29th to finish the season with a couple of games with the Lansing Lugnuts.

He started behind the plate for the 10th this year and his career. Lopez picked up his first hit as a Lugnut in the 2nd inning with a line-drive single to LF. He stroked an RBI double to RF to score Johnny Aiello with Lansing’s first run. Lopez reached base in the 7th inning with a single to RF for his 3rd hit of the game. With 2-out in the 9th inning, Jesus Lopez finished his day with his 3rd single, another line-drive to LF.

Unfortunately, his teammates were unable to take advantage of Lopez’ 4-for-4, leaving him stranded all four times.

The Kevin Smith and Griffin Conine Show

Kevin Smith did not play. Smith is batting just .207 but will look to improve his stock in the Arizona Fall League.

Griffin Conine did not play. Griffin has a .278BA with 18 doubles, 2 triples, 21RBI, 62RBI, 124K and a .935OPS in 78GP.
