Vancouver- The C’s had their 4-game win streak snapped as Eugene took the 1st game of the 6-game series. The Emeralds scored first with 2 runs in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd. Vancouver rallied with a Trevor Schwecke solo home run in the bottom half of the 3rd and tied the game in the 5th when Addison Barger tripled home Harrison Ray and Leo Jimenez. The clubs traded blows in the 7th with each club scoring 2 runs in their respective half innings. Unfortunately, Marco Luciano‘s solo home run in the 8th inning proved to be the winning blow for the Emeralds.

Dunedin- The D-Jays dropped their 3rd straight as they opened a 6-game set with Fort Myers. The Mighty Mussels scored all 4 of their runs in the 5th as they held Dunedin to 2 runs on 3 hits. After Matt Svanson chucked 4 scoreless innings, Connor Cooke struggled in his first inning. Cooke settled down after the 5th, throwing 3 scoreless and finished with 7 strikeouts but the damage was done as he fell to 0-2.

Player Spotlight

Today we turn our attention to Addison Barger.

Playing 3rd and batting 2nd for the Vancouver Canadians, the 2018 6th round selection had gotten off to a hot start. This should come as no surprise as the Bellvue, WA., native collected 22 doubles and 18 home runs last season in what could be considered a mini break-out season.

The 22-yr-old infielder hit into a double play in the 1st inning after Leo Jimenez reached on a leadoff walk. He then flew out to end the 3rd inning. But after Harrison Ray singled and Leo Jimenez doubled with 2-outs, Barger sent a 1-1 pitch into the gap in RF for a 3-run triple, tieing the game at 3-3. With two on and one out in the 7th, Barger singled to RF to score Garrett Spain and Harrison Ray to tie the game at 5-5. He struck out in his final at-bat, leading off the 9th.

In 39 at-bats, the left-handed swinging Barger is batting .385 with a HR, 11RBI, a stolen base, and a 1.026OPS. In the field he has split his time between 3rd and SS with 4 games played at each position.
